Hello!
I’m Gizette, a budding freelance writer and editor.
The Road to Freelancing
Growing up, I always felt like I wasn’t very good at speaking. Once something is said, you can’t take it back, you can’t perfect it or revisit it before someone hears it. It just…is.
But, when I write I can let my thoughts breathe before I share them. Writing forces my thoughts to sit in a linear fashion, so I can actually assess them and express them properly.
Can you tell I’m a little type A?
I had other passions, though. Things that I allowed to take over for a time because I thought they would make me happy. And because I was good at it, and people noticed.
It wasn’t until my 2nd year of university that I really started to lean into writing.
After I bombed one of my English papers, something clicked in my brain, and from then on I got at least an A on all of my papers (except the one paper I wrote for a Logic class).
Then I started editing all of my husband’s papers for nursing school and his grades started to rise, that’s when I realized…hey, I’m pretty good at this.
By that time, I had gone through 6 years of university and came out with a diploma and 2 bachelor’s degrees in the music and education fields. I felt like if I didn’t do something directly and obviously related to either of those things, it would be a waste.
Looking back, I realize I was more afraid of what other people would think (a post for another time).
After several moves, different jobs, 8 years of marriage, 2 children and a couple of writing and literature courses, I’ve decided that life is too short.
Life is too short and too wonderful to pigeon-hole myself into doing what I’m supposed to be doing.
I love writing.
It’s rewarding and exhausting and fulfilling and frustrating all at the same time. And I love it.
My Intention for this Blog
In addition to showcasing my writing, I will be sharing exciting things that I learn in a variety of different areas.
It will focus on:
- Music (my other love)
- Education
- Parenting
- Budgeting
- Self-help and wellness
- Sustainable living
- Faith and religion.
For more opinion based pieces, you can check out my profile on Medium.
This is going to be a fun, educational and wild ride, and I can’t wait.
